Level 1
Little or no experience on a bike, and trouble keeping the front wheel straight while riding.
Recommended equipment:
gloves, elbow, knee and shin pads, helmet (CSA certified), mountain bike with front suspension, minimum V-brakes required, adequate tread on tires
Level 2
Limited experience on a bike. Able to control bike speed and direction on paved surfaces, but with little or no experience riding off-road terrain.
Recommended equipment:
gloves, elbow, knee and shin pads, helmet (CSA certified), mountain bike with front suspension, minimum V-brakes required, adequate tread on tires.
Level 3
Limited experience riding off-road terrain. Capable of controlling bike speed and direction on gentle single track trails and slightly uneven surfaces.
Recommended equipment:
gloves, elbow, knee and shin pads, helmet (CSA certified), mountain bike with front suspension, minimum V-brakes required, adequate tread on tires
Level 4
Mountain biking for at least two years. Capable of controlling bike speed and direction on moderately steep and technical single track trails.
Recommended equipment:
gloves, elbow, knee and shin pads, mountain bike with front suspension and a minimum of four inches of travel (dual suspension suggested), minimum V-brakes required (disc brakes suggested), adequate tread on tires, full-face helmet, chest and spine protection
Level 5
A strong and confident rider, comfortable on steep and technical terrain and willing to attempt small to moderate drops and jumps.
Recommended equipment:
gloves, elbow, knee and shin pads, mountain bike with front suspension and a minimum of four inches of travel (dual suspension suggested), minimum V-brakes required (disc brakes suggested), adequate tread on tires, full-face helmet, chest and spine protection
Level 6
Downhill or freeride mountain biker, confident riding all types of terrain including large jumps, drops and narrow elevated trails.
Recommended equipment:
gloves, elbow, knee and shin pads, mountain bike with front suspension and a minimum of four inches of travel (dual suspension suggested), minimum V-brakes required (disc brakes suggested), adequate tread on tires, full-face helmet, chest and spine protection
